It’s a long slow burn that Dice, Food, Lodging has been dealing with. The podcast has been dormant for nearly a year now, the blog for about nine months. But I keep it up, because I might come back to it. I really feel like I should, and yet…
I’m not sure how much I’ve actually got to say on the matter. A lot of what kept me going on it was the surfeit of alone-time I had while I was traveling. Being constantly in motion around the world with nothing but a hotel television can make you long for company and doing the podcast gave me that.
But now I’ve made the connections that I wanted to make. I read an article some time back about making friends as an adult, and how it’s a lot harder because you’re much more settled in your own ways. I’m not convinced that’s strictly true, but I do see it in the way that upheaving your routines are necessary to trying to spend time with new friends in addition to older ones. So unless you’ve moved to a new city or something, yes, it’s hard.
In the last year and change, I’ve been at a much more stable (and pleasant) job. I’ve been writing more and rejiggering a lot of my games. I have continued to meet people in person, have tried to re-up some of the more distant friendships, but still don’t manage to see local people most of the time. I’m also much more clearly recognizing myself as an introvert, which certainly doesn’t help.
At the same time, I’m continuing to meet fascinating people who have a lot of interesting things to say. And asking questions of people who already have something to say is much easier than just coming up with your own topics.
I’ve had an itch to write more regularly recently, so at the very least I’m going to do that. It’s good practice for the RPG that I’m actively working on specifically, and for my own personal/professional development in general. Plus, I’ve got a handful of potential interviews that I think will make for interesting listening and will hopefully help out friends with some promotion. Look forward to those soon.
